You need to have the same chunks, not dbspaces, available. Therefore,
no matter that you splat your dbspaces with an oninit -i (in fact, you
just splat the rootdbs - the others are untouched), you can do a restore
from a previous archive that will write the dbspace data back into your
chunks.
