PPP dial in vs distributed data.... 1) What are your communication costs? This is a loaded question. I mean we had to develop some sophisticated spreadsheets to compare the costs of dedicated leased lines, PPP over phone, and ISDN. The variables are bandwidth, cost per min., number of users, etc ... Also you may have to deal with different tarifs, setup/connection charges if the metered rate isn't flat. 2) Whats your application. Is it mission critical? In other words, lets say there's an act of god, or an arial nuke burst which knocks out your communications (Hey its India remember? And they just started tossing atoms around....) Can your business operations survive without this application running? How often do you need to be insync with your central data repository? If you have to be constantly in-sync, you might as well just have one copy running. (Data replication adds a lot of headaches, especially in disaster recovery issues.) [You are only keeping a portion of the data local to the regional office right?] So while I ask more questions than I answered, it should point you on the right track. Its not like we planned a revision from a satelite based network to a ground based network or anything.... -Mikey -- #include <std_disclaimer.h> /* Mike Segel (MS385) */ #include <No_Spam.h> #ifdef OFFENDED_BY_CONTENT The author takes no responsibility for this post.
