Effectiveness of Stored Procedures
Posted in 1997
Hello! Is there a limit on the size and complexity of Stored Procedures? I have to write code to implement some of our business logic and I consider either SPL or ESQL/C. The code will probably become a little complex, especially in SPL, where I have the limitations of the lacking CASE/switch statement and the impossibility of indexing strings with variables. This would make for a lot of IFs when written in SPL. The code would ultimately be called by a trigger which then runs a Stored Procedure. This SP could either call an ESQL/C program via "system" or do it all by itself. If the algorithm can be implemented at all in SPL, should I prefer this over ESQL/C? What factors should I take into consideration when deciding between the two?
