Downward Compatibility

Hi We are using Informix online 5.x on AIX 3.2.5. We use esql/c 5.x for developing our frontend [using curses libraries]. All our projects are supposed to run on Informix 5.x. Some of the modules in these projects needs to be run on 4.x Informix. Is there any way by which we can compile our source which will be compatible to 4.x, instead of loading 4.x on another server ?
