FW: logical logs

Hey bro, > >Hi > >I am running Online 7.23 on HP 10.20 > >Why was logical log backed up every 2-3 minutes? >Is there any hint not to make that backup too fast? >Here is the info... I'm not certain if there is much you can do about how often you use logical logs but you can certainly change it by changing your logical logs config. You are using a log every 2 and a bit minutes and one log is 6MB. So say if you wanted to use a logical log every 5 minutes then you would double the size of your logs and maybe half the number (remembering the implications of the high and low water marks!). I would run a script over your production log and put that into a spreadsheet to get a good look at the stats before you do anything and then you could do the same after any changes and thus you already have all the data / graphs for analysing how your configuration change worked then you just have to write a bit of sizzle and your have a document for your manager saying how bright you are. Also, you can fix those errors in your log file every time a logical log is used by commenting out the ALARMPROGRAM parameter in your onconfig. BTW, Turn WSTATS off dude URGENTLY, on HP platforms this causes excessive gettimeofday() system calls that have been reported to take up to 20% of system resources!!!! You can monitor the calls through glance option Y then "f"orward until you see gettimeofday. Anyway, I hope this helps? Cheers, Tony. > > >
