First make sure you have MS Windows 95 or NT. Don't try with any earlier versions. There is too much trouble with TCP/IP and old software of every kind to vaste your time on it. If you want to use Delphi the I-Connect drivers from Informix reportadly works the best. Get the latest version from Informix. They come free with OnLine 7.x, but I also think you get them for free if you download the ROM tool from the Informix web site. If you only want to demonstrate windows connectivity you can probably do it most easily with ODBC and MS Access: Download the OpenLink ODBC drivers - the Enterprise version - from http://www.openlinksw.com They have free trial versions so a test will cost you nothing appart from some time. Make sure you download the installation instructions as well. Install the request broker and database driver for Informix 5 on your AIX server. Make sure you have TCP/IP working between your PC and AIX machine (use ping to test). Install the OpenLink MS Windows ODBC drivers on your PC. Make sure you have a 32 bit version of MS Access (no earlier than version 7.0 for Windows 95 - works fine on NT as well). Start up MS Access and connect to the tables on your server. When this works you can start programming in any language you want that support ODBC. (Don't ever try to make applications with MS Access, limit it's usage to ad hoc queries and possibly some reporting.)
