If Informix cannot allocate an extent of the specified size it will used the largest
available contiguous space - in this case 2Gb and likewise for the next extent. BTW
you will not have reserved as much room for growth as you originally planned for.

yes, I think the 2Gb is a unix partition limit

it could intefere if both tables have small next extent sizes and you are allocating
next extents during the data loads ( or when creating the indexes ).

unless you are able to use the IN DBspace clause when creating an index then they
are treated in exactly the same way.
