Is there a forum for SAP R/3 customers using Informix ?

Mario - I've looked and it seems pretty sparse. OSS seems to replace the back and forth among users you typically see in other newsgroups about other products. If you talk it over enough here, I'll bet you coax a few people out of the woodwork. I'll occasionally chime in where/when I can. John V at Panasonic - you still listening?? Greg p.s. That's quite a system, I'm impressed. MOPSOMER@raychem.com wrote: > > Hi, > > Does anyone know of a forum (e.g. user groups, internet sites or > even books) for Informix DBAs supporting SAP R/3 ? Hi, Does anyone know of a forum (e.g. user groups, internet sites or even books) for Informix DBAs supporting SAP R/3 ? As SAP R/3 is quite popular, I think there should be a number of Informix DBAs who struggle with the same problems and questions ? I find the topics covered in this informix-list very useful, but the majority of the topics are not really relevant for SAP R/3 environments. The following things make an SAP/Informix site a bit different : - you get the database schema with the SAP R/3 application, - the standard SAP 4.x schema contains over 10,000 tables & views, - after the SAP installation, you already have a DB of several GB, - the database objects are created with the ABAP/4 WorkBench, - SAP uses its own object locking methods on top of IFMX locking, - SAP defines referential integrity without using IFMX features, - the programs are written in the ABAP/4 language (so no ESQL/C), - the SQL which is normally used in the ABAP/4 programs is Open SQL which is quite different from Informix SQL and even ANSI-SQL, - you can not use all IFMX features [e.g. expression-based fragm.], - you have to use the SAP utilities for most db-related activities, - etcetera Kind regards, Mario Opsomer SAP BC / Informix Support RAYCHEM N.V. Raychem runs a worldwide single SAP system with 3,000 users, spread over the US and Europe. Our production database is 300 GB and we still grow with 3 GB per week. We use a SUN E6000 with 18 CPUs and 5.5 GB RAM as DB server and 8 application servers (SUN E4000s with 8 CPUs and 2GB RAM each). Not all Raychem plants are on SAP yet, so these numbers could still increase. Except for this production system, we also have a QA system (a copy of the production db), a development system, a training system and a system for the technical group to which I belong. We use SAP FI, SD, MM, PP, HR.

I'm looking after SAP R/3 3.0f in a Hamburg hospital. We are running FI, CO, AD and IS-H (IS-hospital). Informix version 7.23. I'm on the brink of going to 4.0b with Informix 7.3 but holding out as we need more machine/RAM/disks/and HACMP (IBM AIX hot switch-over) I'd be >very< interested in a newsgroup with info to swap. Although not new to Informix, I am new to R/3 and BC and there are a few interesting points in the system aren't there ... Any news to my mail address is going to be good news Thanks Nick
