NEWS RELEASE June 3, 1996 Embarcadero Technologies Ships Two New Version Control Products for Sybase, Microsoft, Oracle and Informix databases. TeamSQL/Project tools have native support for MKS Source Integrity and Intersolv PVCS archives. San Francisco,CA , June 3, 1996 Embarcadero Technologies today shipped TeamSQL/Project and TeamSQL/Project for PVCS, two new source code management tools for SQL databases. Both applications can be used to maintain off-line, file-based, SQL source code repositories for SQL databases. Support is included for Sybase System 10 & 11, Microsoft 6, Oracle 7 and Informix SE and Online databases. The TeamSQL/Project product line includes comprehensive DDL extraction facilities for all major database object types implemented as easy-to-use wizards. The source repositories built and maintained by the tool are based on industry-standard file archival technologies. The standard version of the product, TeamSQL/Project, ships with an OEM version of the Mortice Kerns System's (MKS) Source Integrity engine while support for existing INTERSOLV PVCS installations is provided by the PVCS version of the product. TeamSQL/Project can be used to maintain complete source code trees for each object in a SQL database. The DDL (Data Definition Language) used to build database objects such as tables, stored procedures and triggers is stored at an atomic file archive level. This allows for version control at the object level. A Universal ISQL tool is included to provide a graphical scripting and query environment for any ODBC SQL datasource. It supports simultaneous connections with multiple, heterogenous database types and can be used by a developer to work on multiple database objects at a time. Team Development Facilities TeamSQL/Project can be used by teams of developers and/or administrators. Users can check-in and check-out object revisions and perform all standard version control functions. Revision locks by other users are visually displayed, thus allowing every user to know who is working with a specific database object and preventing two users from editing the same object simultaneously. Common Interface TeamSQL/Project uses a single, intuitive, Explorer-style, Project browser window. The interfaces for managing MKS and PVCS archives are identical. Optional dialog configurations can be used to make a check-out operation possible with a single keystroke. Invoking an ISQL source editor can be done in one additional keystroke. Easy, graphical wizards are used to create new Projects, reverse-engineer database structures and to update Projects from databases. Object Life-Cycle Development A promotion/demotion facility allows users to optionally associate archive promotion levels with Development, Test and Production databases. After a database object revision has been built and tested on a Development database, the archive can be promoted via a user-definable Development Hierarchy. A higher promotion level can be used to associate the source revision with a Test or a Production database. The TeamSQL Solution TeamSQL/Project is part of a suite of 32-bit database tools provided by Embarcadero to address each step in the database development life-cycle.
