There is a manual available, called something like Informix Migration
Guide. Also load the new S/W and check the release notes in
$INFORMIXDIR/release/*/*. You will find a document called something like
ids_migrate_docnotes_9.40.html with additional port specific notes. You
should be checking the other docs in that directory prior to an upgrade in
any case.
I would have thought you could do an in-place upgrade, but check with IBM
tech support first. Also a good idea to do a test run on a test machine if
you can.
