Index creation on compressed table

Hi All, Informix 12.10.FC2 on HP-UX B.11.31 If I have to create a index on a column of a compressed table (Informix Compression) then will it take more time as compared to creating an index on the same column of the same table when it is not compressed? Regards Vikas
Most often the answer is no, especially if you packed the table after it was compressed, because more rows fit on a page, so more CPU to decompress the rows to build the index keys, but less IO. Sometimes it's a bit slower, again especially if you did not pack the table. Depends on the data. Art Art S.
