You will be able to access the 5.xx engine either through the 7.3 engine (with INFORMIXSERVER=my7_3servername) as a remote database (database@my5_0servername) or directly by setting INFORMIXSERVER to the name of the 5.0x server from the 7.3 sqlhosts file (but not using a shared memory connection only tcp or ipcstr).
