A key question is why would you want to run eight separate instances. It sounds like you realy need 8 databases and your application is written with a buildt in name for the database. If that's the case the best option is to change your application to accept the database name as a parameter (or even change it at runtime). This is normally not hard to do. If this isn't possible you may have to run all your eight instances. May be you could tell us a little more about your application.
