In our department we tend to use Informix mirroring over the LVM mirroring. We do this because in general there is another group which administers the drives while we have control over the chunks. Hence we have greater control through the Informix mirroring. In the past 4 years over something like 80 drives spread over 18 servers or so I believe we have had three disk problems. One of which was an outright crash. Where we had Informix mirroring set up we didn't even know about the problem until our monitor script pointed it out to us - in other words it works pretty well. Of course HP drives are so good... (in truth we had one drive fall off a file cabinet while running, it fell 3 feet to the floor and continued running without a problem). We have had more problems with install/update scripts changing permissions on our /dev files which really causes a problem. (p.s. DMD stands for Disk Mechanism Division - we make disk drives. ;-) ). cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, DMD/IS Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com Back in Boise _____________________________________________________________________________ If anything can go wrong, fix it.
