In Informix is deleting data from the tables sufficient to reclaim the space back from the OS ? Or does anything else need to be done for this ? TIA, Jack

Are you talking about IDS/Online or SE? IDS allocates space from the OS in units called chunks and it just releases it with a drop of the chunk. Within the chunk, space is reserved for table usage in extents in a semi-automatic way when you create the table or when it needs to grow due to inserts. Once it grows the DELETEs *won't* make it shrink. You have to recreate the table. SE uses files... I'm not sure about the inner workings, but I believe a file won't shrink without some kind of maintenance. Regards.
No, under SE you will need to drop the table, under IDS you need to remove the chunk it lives in and then assuming you are on raw disk and a real OS you can newfs it so the OS can use it Jack A wrote: > > In Informix is deleting data from the tables sufficient to reclaim the space > back from the OS ?
