RE: Bar code printing

We usually buy a barcode chip to plug into the printer. Then it is a simple matter of printing the escape code to turn on the font (as you guessed). This escape code will most likely come with the font cartridge and may save you the trouble of buying the printer manual. The escape code can be printed with the ascii command inside a report, such as print ascii 27 for the escape character itself. It would not be a bad idea to try and find a book for the printer. I have called HP in the past and gotten them to fax me a page of escape codes. They are reasonably similar for each printer, so if you can't get a 4si book a 5si would probably do. Once you get the book you can do all sorts of things with escape codes to change fonts, turn on bold, print on both sides of the page, the sky is the limit. One more note, some UNIX printer interfaces don't like escape codes, and may need to be tweaked to allow them to pass through.
