For the past 10 years, the 18-character limit has been like tight shorts! The more important structures, like table and column names, have that &^%! 18-char limit in the catalogs; that's how big the fields are for these items in the system catalogs. Similarly for the name of an index, stored procedure, and trigger. But I really chafe at this limitation in the names of cursors and prepared statement IDs, which are usually the name of a table followed by underscore and a suffix. On the other hand, if your database allows 64-character entity names and you (the DBA) use it, you will probably be lynched by the programming staff. -- -- Jake (In pursuit of undomesticated aquatic avians) +-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Impeccable Logic: A thought process which successfully | | resists chicken bites | +-----------------------------------------------------------+
