Informix after 7 years

Could someone please point me to reading material to address the following: 7 years ago I wrote and installed Informix system Version 5.05.UC2 application. The installation has gone through little change since. I have gone onto other things in life. Now they asked me to look at the system (AIX) because they are experiencing what they refer to as !lockout! when they run concurrently with the on-line order entry heavy home-written Crystal reports. I want to help them. I could simply recommend an upgrade from their current hardware (old RS/6000) which would quadruple their RAM, and increase their CPU power 10 fold and that for less than they spent on the original system. However, what if it does not solve the problem? What if the old version of Informix does not even run on AIX 5? Thanx

I want to help them. There should be an option to run reports with isolation level "uncommited read" aka "dirty read" . This is usually set around the data source in the report writer. I don't use Crystal, so I cannot comment on exact spot.
