If you have Netscape Communicator (the 4.0 prerelease 2) and turn off loading of immages you can't see the text that is usually there without moving the mouse over the little icon that replaces the image. Great new "feature" from Netscape :(( No feature either way would make me switch to MSIE of course. A dangerous animal that has been banned in our company. : PS Thanks for the URL's you have been posting in c.d.i : How do you find them?? 1. Check such links and follow on to a few others. 2. Search for things on altavista (http://www.altavista.com/ or much better from the advanced search page: http://www.altavista.digital.com/cgi-bin/query?pg=aq&what=web) You should be aware of the the Visual Live Topics link when you are presented with the results. It may take some time to load the first time, but it's worth it. Try searching for informix. Then select Visual Live Topics. You can now select additional words from the list. If you select the Topic Relationships tab you get something realy funny. The Visual Topic (non Live) link may also be usefull. Someone said that Java can't be used for usefull purposes? Several questions here in c.d.i. could easily be eliminated if people had simply used altavista search first. (5000 documents on informix AND ODBC may be a little overwhelming though.) 3. Having SmartMark (http://www.firstfloor.com/) or some similar techonology to store them intelligently and have automatic notification when interesting pages change (without looking at them myself). I wouldn't survive without SmartMark. It would be impossible both to organise my URL's and particularly see changes at interesting sites. (With SmartMark I can know when Tim has changed his site before his posting here at c.d.i. reaches me :-) His hit counter may become a little off though.) You can even have this little baby download the pages for you, so you can see them in your browser without having to wait on slow internet connections. You select to download a single page or two or three link levels down. 4. Of course it helps with an Ethernet connection to your ISP and megabits of bandwith from there, and the support people in the next office down the corridor :-) If this isn't an option you should select your ISP very carefully and get at least an ISDN connection to them. The Internet has become worth that, particularly for computer professionals. I don't see how one will be able to survive in this bussiness without active use of the Internet.
