No, won't work cleanly.
Your new root partition must have the *same* configuration as
before. Granted you are doing the striping in LVM, so that
Informix sees it as a contiguous space. I assmume that it is one
chunk....
But the size and layout must be the same.
The other reason to unload it, is to take the data out of the
root db space. You may want to consider creating a separate dbspace
for your application.
(I know Jack covered all of this but you seemed confused.)
Also, I would think that it would be better for having Informix
mirror the dbspace. (This is debateable since I have never seen
a disk crash yet on a mirrored dbspace so I am going from intuition.)
