Re: Basic question: ignoring case

I don't even know if 4GL will work with the Universal Server. Informix isn't the best informer in the world. I assume however that it will work, and work more or less like it does today. This is because I assume Informix isn't crazy. They may have had tendencies in that direction every now and then, but there are limits. (For the benefit of new readers: They are generally the best DB company arround.) In that case you will be able to use a lot of the new Universal Sever features via prepare/declare of different new statments. There will be new datatypes you can neither read, insert or do anything else usefull with, and I doubt they will implement staggered result sets and several other new things. However simple functions like upshift must be usable in 4GL. If not they are doing something very bad to their customers. If someone from Informix could confirm this I would be very happy. May be someone allready have 4GL running against the Universal Server and can test it? onlinedbc@cix.compulink.co.uk ("Malcolm Weallans") wrote: :Nils keeps saying that case insensitive queries will be in Universal :Server. But will they be available in ISQL, I4GL at that time? And will :they be available with no database and/or application changes? You will need to change both the database (typically only by creating an index with the upshift function applied to the column in question) and most sertainly your application. It will have to generate an sql where clause containing the upshift function. As the standard construct statement can't do this, and it is unlikely, to say the least, that there will be an upgrade to 4GL where it can, you will have to find a way to put it in yourself. That will require some programming, but that isn't too hard. :> panic@suba.com () wrote: :> :> :I'm just starting with Informix SQL, and I was wondering how to do a :> case :insensitive query (the tutorial doesn't cover it, and Borders is :> out of the :reference manual). :> :> Check the FAQ.
