Re: IDS Minimum Requirements?

I agree that trying to run IDS with 32Mb Ram equates will to running Win98 on 4Mb. However it should be able to work badly on 64Mb. (I have a client running a 5 user Workgroup Server on SCO with 64Mb Ram, 200Mb database and it runs badly). The CPU stats may be because SE uses Unix ISAM files, hence Unix is performing the IO, whereas IDS correctly configured will be doing the IO. Hence the IO that under SE was System CPU is now User CPU for IDS. It looks to me as if you inherently have a problem with the configuration or setup of your 7.30. Having said that IDS needs more resources, particularly memory, to "get it going". You need to configure IDS to the resources available and the requirements of the users. This is often a compromise. there is a lot of tuning available in the IDS configuration file and you need to be able to determine what is happening (short resources) and what resources are available while doing the sql. Have you run Update Statistics Medium on the table(s)? This is compulsary. Can you set explain on for SE and IDS engines to determine what each is doing. The simple answer may well lie with these results. To get back to your original question .... I think 32Mb Ram for AIX and IDS is very optimistic. 128Mb would be my minimum with an appropriately configured IDS and OS.
