Vertex vs. AVP (fwd)

---- original message from Nancy Suffron ---- * * * I am working with a customer that is evaluating these two tax packages. * Anyone that has information about them and how well they work with (or * don't) I-4GL, I'd appreciate it hearing from you. * * We will be implementing this on a DG Aviion. So far the only * references we've gotten from the companies have been using RPG and * we're much more interested in and concerned about using it with C. I have had experience with Vertex using the C compiled version on Motorola hardware. It works well. The usual set up and interface junk, but it is well documented and their tech support is very co-operative. The hard part for me was making the (existing) calling program modular enough to use the Vertex "black box". There are also some issues with maintaining tax area codes between the existing customer/vendor file. Vertex has a very logical scheme for identifying taxing jurisdictions. The usual "city, state, and county" codes are not sufficient in all cases. However, they are flexible about this, providing two ways to access tax data. -- Jennifer Berak email: 4gen!warlok!jenb Analyst/Project Manager jenb@sherwood.com Sherwood Systems (A division of Sherwood Manufacturing) (602)230-8188 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
