Thanks > for your help! 1) Some systems have trouble partitioning large drives into enough 2GB pieces for the Informix chunks so that part of the 9GB+ drives become wasted. 2) More drives (ie spindles) is better than fewer to, as you say, spread the load out. However, 9GB+ drives tend to be newer and have faster spindle speeds (>7200RPM) and improved caches, few 4GB drives that I remember have the 7200->10000RPM speed which can make a difference. Art S.
