access privileges

I recently downloaded a one-user demo of Informix OnLine 7.10 for UNIX. Unfortunately it doesn't come with any documentation. Problem: When connecting to a particular database using dbaccess, the server reports that the user or host is not trusted. I have to run dbaccess and connect using the menus before I can do anything. This caused major problems when initializing the db on installation, since the build_smi script couldn't build the sysmaster db. Is there an access control file somewhere that I don't know of? I have logged in manually and granted connect, dba, resource to user "informix" but I still get refused when running 'dbaccess <some_database>'. *Please respond via email* TIA!!
