RE: Parallel backups in Informix 5.xx

Jacek Q. Why are you taking two backups of Informix? You will get into problems if you try and restore your first level 0 and rollforward the logical logs that were backed up after the second level 0. What you should consider if your overnight window for backups is too small, is to create a number of Informix instances with your database evenly split across these instances. On your primary instance, create synonyms to the tables in the other instances. Your application will therefore not need changed in any way because it is still talking to the one instance and your database and all the tables will _appear_ to be in that instance. You therefore have a number of tbconfig files with a number of "archive devices". Unfortunately it seems my version of Informix (5.03UC1) does not support this feature since it allows for only one definition of tape (archive device). I run two backups one by one but database size grows and it won't be feasible soon.
