Client-Server communication

I'm looking for some information about the client-server architecture of Informix, particularly I need to know if it's feasible to intervene in the communication between client and server in case of some SQL statements. I want to explore a possiblity to pre-process the SQL statements before they are submitted to the server, i.e. something that acts like a gateway between client and server. Can anybody tell me which facilities are provided by Informix for this purpose ? Any information is appreciated.
