Terminfo with Informix on Slackware

I'm trying to get terminfo to work with Informix SE 7.25.UC6 running on
Slackware Linux 9.1. Slackware has terminfo installed in
/usr/share/terminfo and I've set INFORMIXTERM=terminfo, but if I try to
start dbaccess with TERM=wyse60 it says "The type of your terminal is
unknown to the system". Slackware does include a termcap file with a
wyse60 entry, so if I set TERMCAP=/etc/termcap-BSD (this is the termcap
with the wyse60 entry) dbaccess works. Why doesn't terminfo work? I
unset TERMCAP and still INFORMIXTERM=terminfo doesn't seem to work or
at least it can't find the correct entry, but there is a wyse60 entry
in terminfo.

I found this in the Informix release notes:
UNIX systems that provide terminfo services but
do not fully support the System V terminfo library
will not recognize the INFORMIXTERM environment
variable (which Appendix D describes). The terminfo
library must include the following functions:
setupterm()
tigetstr()
tigetflag()
tigetnum()
So maybe INFORMIXTERM doesn't work on Slackware since it's not System
V, but rather BSD. I thought it was only BSD with regard to the init
scripts, but maybe other stuff as well. I do have the above functions
installed so it seems like it should work.

Slackware uses ncurses, which provides the given interface. The current version of ncurses is 5.5 (20051010) There's an faq at http://invisible-island.net/ncurses/ncurses.faq.html -- Thomas E. I'm running ncurses version 5.3, will upgrading to 5.5 work with Informix?

There are two questions raised:
a) does ncurses provide terminfo as indicated in the Informix
release notes (I answered that one).
b) does Informix actually use ncurses? (I don't know that one,
don't have Informix available to inspect - if I had, it would
be simple enough to do "ldd dbaccess" or whatever, to see if
it's linked with ncurses, use strace to see what files it
opens, etc).
It's possible that Informix is using its own curses library.
Coincidentally, I noticed last week (by downloading the source ;-)
that Ingres does this - and only uses termcap underneath.
If Informix isn't using ncurses' shared libraries, it's possible that
it's using something like the AIX terminfo format, which isn't the
same as ncurses (and Solaris, IRIX64). In that case, the application
couldn't read the data in /usr/share/terminfo.
