Item Subject: TEXT data type usage Hi Roger, To update a TEXT datatype in Informix from Powerbulder, you need to use the UPDATEBLOB Function. In other words use a BLOB variable instead of a string variable to update the TEXT datatype and it will work. Syntax is as follows: BLOB big_text //Declare variable of type BLOB UPDATEBLOB SET Text_col = big_text WHERE..... USING <Transaction object> More info is available in the PowerBuilder Online Help under UPDATEBLOB. Hope this helps! I am converting a Watcom DB to Informix. The front-end is Powerbuilder. In Watcom a Varchar (same as Informix TEXT) is updated just like any Char field. Under Informix the TEXT field cannot be set equal to a string... Does anyone use the TEXT datatype? Any pointers on how best to use it? From Powerbuilder? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!! Roger Meyers roger@stratsoft.com Strategic Software Solutions, San Francisco, CA
