Help with INFORMIX locking

Specifically, I support an application using MONITROL, ESQLC, and Informix forms and reports, and I've run into contention errors. There is no explicit locking done in any of the code right now. I'm brand new at this, so I won't be offended if you say read pages so'n'so in the manual. I've skipped around and have to admit that I don't get it yet. I'm used to using IMAGE locking on the HP3000's, so I may be getting thrown by the different mind-set. Maybe just one example will get me started. Please feel free to send me email. Thanks!
