IUS question: passing empty variables to webexpode/ENVIRONMENT...

Is there a way to pass a variable that is empty to the webexplode function? When I call <?MISQL SQL="execute function webexplode(some_udr(),'var1=&var2=foo');">$1<?/MISQL> the value for var1 which is empty doesnt make it to the environment. Is there another way to put empty variables in the environment?
