Frank, When I do a query that doesn't match any rows, I only get one message 'ISAM or system error number 3400'; no other messages follow it. On further investigation, I did a query that does return some rows, and I pressed next N or previous P so that I attempt to go past the end of the row set. I got the following message: 'ISAM or system error number 3300'. So I guess it will give this generic message with the error number for all errors.
It's a peculiar coincidence that another is claiming the same problem with the same isql version of perform!.. When you execute an sql script, does it also return just an error number vs. number with text message?.. Can you bring up perf.iem with a hex editor to see if there are text messages in it?.. for some reason, it feels like there could be a synchronization problem between the error number being able to locate the corresponding text message in perf.iem, especially since you said that GLS environment variable is properly defined and the iem files are in the appropiate $INFORMIXDIR/msg directory.. This could very well be a bug, since you and another user with the same version are experiencing the exact same situation!
