4GL INPUT/DISPLAY attributes
Posted in 1995
Ok all, I've finally got annoyed enough to ask this one. I am having problems with the way compiled 4GL and Pcode handle form attributes differently. The problem is this, in order to standardise a set of programs which have a variety of different display/input attributes, a standard function was created that set the options below. OPTIONS DISPLAY ATTRIBUTE(NORMAL), INPUT ATTRIBUTE(NORMAL) This is an interim measure since the newer programs use BEFORE and AFTER field DISPLAY statements to highlight the currrent field in reverse video. In compiled programs, this method works fine, with the newer programs displaying the current field in reverse. Pcode versions of the same programs however always display the current field 'normal', ie the INPUT ATTRIBUTE overrides the DISPLAY in the BEFORE FIELD. The questions are: 1) Which is correct? 2) Are there versions of 4GL/RDS in which this behaviour is consistent? 3) Any personal views on which way these 2 products should behave?
