Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
User running oncheck -pr on Informix 11.50 for Windows received an error about invalid characters in DBSERVERNAME/DBSERVERALIASES, citing a hostname with hyphens (HVGREYST19.st-network.maf.govt.nz). Respondents identified that hyphens are not allowed in Windows Informix server names, unlike on Unix. Suggestion was to use underscores instead of hyphens or avoid special characters entirely when naming instances.

IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC9DE
I am installing informix on windows for first time / I assume oncheck performs
ok on windows as on Unix.
When running oncheck -pr i get following message.
>
C:\\\\Users\\\\oliverk-admin>oncheck -pr
Invalid character(s) in DBSERVERNAME or DBSERVERALIASES
HVGREYST19.st-network.maf.govt.nz).
Error in value of a parameter in the ONCONFIG file.
Yet instance is up and running so is this a misleading message ?
How do people mange informix on windows besides command line - OAT ?

For purposes of communication, you cannot had hyphens in the name of a =
Windows Informix engine.

Sorry - bad eyes. I would try creating an instance without underscores =
- or any "special" characters and see how uncheck works.

Your previous email mentioned:

That looks more like a hyphen than an underscore.
My standard naming convention on Unix-like systems is host_NN where NN is
the server number; underscores on Unix are fine in the server name. I also
work on a few machines where the host name contains a hyphen: xyzvm-a123,
etc. On those machines, I can't use the dash in the hostname; I map it to
underscore (so xyzvm_a123_13, etc).

What do you have on DBSERVERNAME and DBSERVERALIAS?
Can you make sure the %ONCONFIG% file doesn't have any strange character
near those parameters?
Regards.
