RE: Using dbexport

I suppose you have your own reasons to take dbexports, and yes it can be a
nuisance when connections are on ..
Just a suggestion here if it helps is to write a script which checks the #
of connections and exits if more than 4 (informix online) by :
threads=`onstat -u | grep active | cut -f2 -d" "`
echo Total active threads are $threads
if [ $threads -gt 4 ]
then
echo "================================================="
echo " Users are logged in !! Backup cannot proceed"
echo " Press Return to view users "
read x
echo "\\n"
onstat -u | pg
exit 0fi
The script then exits and the operators try later. I myself would appreciate
any better suggestions which I can incorporate in our backup procedure.

Subject: Using dbexport
Date: Tuesday, January 07, 1997 12:45PM
I am using dbexport (On-Line v 7.13) to perform weekly unloads of our
databases. Because of the exclusive locks that dbexport puts on a database,
it does not work if there are connections to the database.
I am curious to find out how you solved this issue in your environments.
How do you perform weekly unloads? How do you gracefully disconnect
attached users? Do you use tools other than dbexport? etc...
Any ideas would be welcomed.
