With the research I have been doing in the last couple of months, I have narrowed my choices to Oracle7 and Informix. If it is reliablity you are concerned about, I would definitely go with Oracle. I have been working with Oracle for the past 6 years and have found it to be one of the most reliable databases out there. I have only worked with Informix for a short time, but from what I could find out with my research, they appear to have a very good kernel that is capable of handling the kind of load you are talking about. I'm just not sure about the ability of Informix to connect to your other systems ( IBM/Unisys ). I know that Informix has a DRDA gateway...and I think that is the exent of their gateways. I know that Oracle has several gateways to other machines and databases. I hope this helps. If you would like more info, please e-mail me directly.
