Try:
SET LOCK MODE TO NOT WAIT;
SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE myConds FOR UPDATE;
See also the manuals for discussion of transaction modes and isolation
levels to achieve the precise effect you want.
Informix can lock rows or pages, it's your choice with Online and rows
only with SE. Informix has always been able to lock rows, so far as I
know.
