We use RAID 5 on a 2 CPU compaq pentium pro (SCO OS5 Online 5). The system
is a lot faster and more reliable than the previous system but although
users do not often complain about response I have noticed that the system
seems to be spending a lot of time waiting in i/o and CPU is 0% idle most of
the time.
e.g.
sar -u shows
SCO_SV pluto 3.2v5.0.4 Pent Pro
%usr %sys %wio %idle (-u)

09:10:27 9 5 81 5
09:10:28 7 5 85 3
09:10:29 11 7 79 3
09:10:30 4 3 92 1
09:10:31 9 4 86 1
09:10:32 29 4 67 0
Average 10 5 82 3
All our disks are on the one chamnnel and we have something like 9 2.1 Gb
disks

What is RAID 10 ?
We are upgrading to IDS 7.3 and will then look at our hardware config and
the possibility
of not using RAID 5
