You have two servers, servernums 0 & 1. Each has two interfaces defined
in the sqlhosts & two names in the ONCONFIG file (DBSERVERNAME and one
DBSERVERALIASES entry) those being:
Server 0: rocky & rocky_shm
Server 1: rockyd & rockydev
These are online. The fifth entry for servername 'xxxxxa' is marked as
offline and is probably an entry made during some test instance startup
long ago. Not to worry, you may indeed have a problem, but this isn't it.

Please access the attached hyperlink for an important electronic communications disclaimer:
http://www.oninit.com/home/disclaimer.php
===========================================================================================
Well, from looking at the volume group where the dbspaces reside, I
agree we only have 2 servers.
I'm not sure if you misread or are seeing something I missed, but it
says xxxxxa is "Up". From talking to the person who set this up, he
swears this was set up "cleanly" without copying over all the
directories from the old server - that is, he installed Informix himself
and then did a dbimport to bring the database over.
It's possible that during the course of that migration, several attempts
and changes were made and thus we ended up with 5 .conf files.
We just created a test server based on our production machine - an SA
copied over everything (well, I thought it was everything until I tried
to compile something (no cc) - he actually only copied over the Inforix
filesystem and the application filesystem).
I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of just copying over
filesystems to recreate the Informix install, but it seems to work.
(That only applies to Informix itself - I did recreate the actual
database from scratch...creating raw logical volumes, oninit -i,
dbimport, etc....)
Also figured out the issue with the database not being accessible - I
misspoke when I said it was a -329 error (silly me - I was trying to
access a database that didn't exist (I'm used to typing "isql abc", but
this database is called "xxx", but we really were running into similar
errors and not being able to access the database). That was due to not
having NETTYPE in our onconfig file and we were exceeding the number of
connections available.
I'm doubling the number of connections as soon as there is downtime to
bounce Informix and am hoping that solves most of our problems. (Our
vendor's solution is usually to reboot the machine - NOT acceptable -
and god (or at least CEO) knows how much we pay for this answer [I hear
Frank Zappa playing Flakes everytime I hear it], but it usually seems to
work - that's probably because we kick everyone off the system and are
thus not bumping up against our connection threshold anymore).
So for my next trick, I'm going to try to delete the excess .confs and
.infos files on our test server. Even if that seems to work, I'd
appreciate any of the experts here weighing in and telling me that's
safe to do. I'd rather not see onstat reporting that we have 5 servers
when we really only have 2.
If I can't just delete those files, how else should I correct that issue?
Thanks Art...
