If you do it anyway, spec your NT machine to be at least 2X the performance of your unix machine. That way, you might end up with the same level of performance that you have now. As for going from Informix to SQL Server....words fail me. Why don't you just have a look at the features both have (NOT the marketing hype) and ask yourself....why? There are only 4 DBMS engines I'd build a 24x7 database on, and none of them are SQL Server. The only bad thing I've ever found about Informix is, their marketing sucks and their support for developers trying to learn how their s/ware works does too, compared to Oracle & Sybase. But technically, there's no comparison. Streets ahead. FWIW, I've used NT4.0 for a very large Progress app (client insistence) so at least there, the speed/resource comparisons are valid. If I was you, I'd put an NT/SQL Server box together and do some comparitive runs. MAybe this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's my experience. I will say that NT4 is a lot better than NT3.5, but that's a very low base :-) Peter Wiley
