I just want to verify I have this right. If you use a SBSpace or a BLOBSPace - they are not logged, therefore you cannot use HDR on that database. Is that correct? So if you are using the BTS datablade - even if it is on Character or varchar fields, you can use HDR because you must have an SPSpace. True? And can someone verify that you can still use ER to replicate the SBSpace or BLobspace. Finally, if you use byte data and don't put it in a blobspace, can it still insert a value larger than the page size? and that can be used with HDR? Thanks! Kate, here's the straight poop: - TEXT and BYTE stored IN TABLE can be replicated using HDR/RSS because tablespace is logged - TEXT and BYTE stored in a blobspace cannot be replicated using HDR or RSS because blobspaces are not logged - BLOB and CLOB can be replicated using HDR/RSS if the sbspace was created as a logged space - BLOB and CLOB cannot be replicated using HDR/RSS if the sbspace was NOT created as a logged space - Any large object can be replicated using ER whether it is stored in a logged or unlogged storage format (ER handles these blobs separately from the log records). - I don't know whether BTS indexes are maintained by ER, but I imagine that they are. As to HDR/RSS, it may depend on whether the sbspace containing the BTS indexes is logged and whether you have enabled logging index builds. Art Art S. Awesome. One last question about that last comment, isn't index logging enabled for any index built on a dbspace that is logged? So the BTS index on a logged SBSPace should be logged, right? Or is there some other way to allow index logging? Are you talking about the parameter DXIDXAUTO for HDR? Thanks! By default, and the way things were handled prior to 11.50, indexes are build in series on primary and then on the secondary and the tables on both servers are locked until both index builds complete. In 11.50 there is an ONCONFIG setting (LOG_INDEX_BUILDS) which changes that behavior. With it set the primary logs all index pages as the index is being built and those pages are then processed as rollforward on the secondaries so the indexes on both servers get build in parallel with only the primary incurring the cost of sorting and scanning. I just don't know if/how that would work or not work with BTS indexes, so I raised the question. Perhaps Madison will join the discussion on the subject. Art Art S.
