Hi all Informix IDS 7.3 or 9.2 / Unix Database Non-ANSI mode, Unbuffered logging. Is it possible to turn off logging, temporarily, for a specific DB table only in order to speed up subsequent updates over this? The table has 1 millon rows and 85% will be affected by the updates. (Table has indexes but not in fields for update) P.Magos
Pantelis You can alter table to RAW, however you need to drop all indexes, constraints etc. first and recreate after, so may not be best, otherwise no. Informix 9.2 (not sure about 7.3) has RAW mode for tables. Changes to these tables are not logged, but you're not allowed to have indexes on raw tables. -----Original Message----- From: Pantelis Magos [mailto:pas@logifer.gr] Sent: Monday, September 15, 2003 7:08 AM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Turn off logging for a single table [1871] Hi all Informix IDS 7.3 or 9.2 / Unix Database Non-ANSI mode, Unbuffered logging. U can probably convert the table into RAW. U can try ALTER TABLE <table_name> type (RAW). Please keep in mind that you cannot have indexes and referential constraints on the table when you turn a table to RAW. Once you are done with your work, you can convert it back to logging table with the command: ALTER TABLE <table> type (standard) HTH Thanx much, Rajib Sarkar Advisory Software Engineer (RAS) IBM Data Management Group Ph : (602)-217-2100 Fax: (602)-217-2100 T/L : 667-2100 As long as you derive inner help and comfort from anything, keep it -- Mahatma Gandhi "Pantelis Magos" <pas@logifer.gr> To: ids@iiug.org Sent by: cc: forum.subscriber@ Subject: Turn off logging for a single table [1871] iiug.org 09/15/2003 04:08 AM Hi all Informix IDS 7.3 or 9.2 / Unix Database Non-ANSI mode, Unbuffered logging. I believe the raw table option is not available until version 9.3 or maybe 9.4.
