I am facing a similar problem accessing data in
international languages.
Server: Informix SE 7.2 on Sun Solaris 2.5.1
The server is setup to use the character set "en_us.utf8"
(that makes
our DB_LOCALE=en_us.utf8) which supports the multibyte
codeset that the various
languages (Japanese, Italian, French, etc.) require.
Client: Windows-95 on Pentium PC. The client PC is setup for
Japanese and the
strings that are displayed in the windows environment are
displayed in Japanese.
ODBC: I am using Openlink 1.5 Type-2 driver.
I am using MS-Access to display the data on the client . The
data looks like
garbage.
The data in my database looks good. I telnetted to my UNIX
server from the PC
setup in Japanese, set "export DB_LOCALE=en_us.utf8" and
used "dbaccess" and looked
at the data. The data is displayed fine. I didnot set the
CLIENT_LOCALE to
anything.
Infact if I set the CLIENT_LOCALE="ja_jp.sjis" or something
similar while using
"dbaccess" the data looks like garbage.
I was reading the GLS documentation but I am kind of stuck
at this point.
My question is what variables, if any, are to be set for any
client, say MS-ACCESS,
would be able to display this multibyte character data
properly.
Do I have run SetNet32 to setup the DB_LOCALE and
CLIENT_LOCALE on the Client PC
(Windows 95 registry).
What is this SetNet32 and where can I find info. about it?
Are the latest Openlink drivers or Informix provided drivers
resolve this problem?
The problem is the same for French and also Italian data.
Any help is highly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Suresh.
