We currently run 4.1 on SunOS 4.1.3_U1, and plan to upgrade to 5.02. We tried 5.02 UC1, but ran into a memory leak bug when changing databases. This bug is present in 4.1, but is much worse in 5.02UC1. I received a call from Informix a couple of days ago to tell me that 5.02 UC6 is on the way to us. I can't really tell you what the new features are for V5, but the upgrade is fairly simple. There are no real changes to databases, although run all the consistency checks in V4 before you upgrade, because once you get to V5, you can't fix a database that was corrupted by V4. We found that some coding changes were necessary where function parameters were used as SQL host variables - not very major. Support for debugging ESQL/C programs is greatly improved, although it will mean quite a bit of fiddling with our Makefiles - we fiddled them already to make debugging work to our satisfaction with V4 :). As I understand, V6 is quite a big upgrade, so we are not taking that step yet. If you run on a Sun system, as far as I understand, there is no 4.10 for Solaris 2, so for us, there is some pressure to get off 4.10. - Ben Kelley. -- "Help! My cat's dirty!"
