Art, aren't you concerned about what user is actually hitting the database?
Say some user is doing something on the client application and for whatever
reason it causes your middleware to send some intense query to the server.
How would you be able to identify who is doing it? I guess you don't do
much with grants or roles then either. How do you handle table security?
There's been talk here at my site about doing something like this but as the
DBA I'm strongly against the idea. I want to see the 'real' user hitting my
databases. And I'm surprised Informix ok'd such a scheme. My understanding
is that all lines in your onstat -u output count as a user connection,
regardless to how many may be the same user. If I'm understanding it wrong
I sure would like to know because I'm paying a butt load for support.
