See the last paragraph below. :} : :Nils, if even Informix knows this, why would they bother putting out :3.0? They simply have to support current users. They will with all probability sell to some new users. When I say a product is dead I mean it's no longer the technology one *should* select for new development unless there is some special reason for it, such as if you allready have other systems developed with NewEra. The point is there are other technologies that are better technologies available. For Informix this means the sales will dvindle over time, and this is what I think Informix knows. It's the same as 4GL which is also a dead product in this sence although it's very actively used (an properly so). With NewEra this situation have however happened a lot faster than anyone would have believed when it was introduced. Judging from job postings (yes they are interesting for several reasons) there are some users of NewEra. Still I would be carefull as there are limits to the reasources Informix can afford to use on this product so I wouldn't expect to much of it. They would have to put a lot of resources into it to make it a top notch product. Generally I believe every product in the NewEra category, like PowerBuilder, Delphi, VB (possibly to a lesser extent) and others, will be hurt by the onslought of Java. Some of them probably severly hurt. Remember Java works as well for pure MS Windows programs as it does for multi tier applications and applets on web pages. It's exciting times, but also times when you have to be very carefull. :} : However, Access sucks, big-time. Try fetching :} :30K rows with around 40 columns into Access and see what happens.
