inconsistent 408's with assert fails

Okay you all.... I could really use some eagle eyes on this one!! I am having problems, that can't seem to be found, with 408 errors then an assert fail on the engine... Informix 9.14 solaris 2.6 The application was a cold fusion web appl. that wrote to the database - we ported it to ms access just to see if that would help - no way! It will occasionally not write to the database - and all to frequently, give a 408 error and then crash the engine. All I can see is that it seems to loose it's connection to the database. It also crashes when I try to dbexport the database. I can go into dbaccess and look at the data (it's small) with a select * on the particular table and it's fine. No errors in the online.log (except assert fails) and those are on the sqlexec thread. Did oncheck's - they come out clean. Used AFDEBUG on and off - not too much help. funny thing - is that this application used to work fine - now all of a sudden it can't seem to keep a connection to the database. Database does have some varchars and lvarchars. I keep thinking that this problem is coming from ODBC/networking ..... or somewhere in that area. But I'm running out of ideas to troubleshoot.....
