CISAM 4.00 and NFS?
Posted in 1993
I am new to this list. The immediate reason I joined was to get the answer to this question (but I plan to stick around). After reviewing the list archives, I see that there has been some discussion recently regarding Informix SQL accessing NFS mounted files. Also some question regarding CISAM and NFS. Unfortunately I haven't found a good answer to this question: Can programs use CISAM calls to reference files that reside on a remote filesystem mounted using NFS. We are using CISAM v4.00 (or maybe 4.1 - 5.0 did not work reliably on our platform) in mission critical Apps. running on an RS/6000-AIX v3.2.4 system. The app has run well for two years, but we have added a new application which must run on a different CPU and reference the data files that are on the original CPU and still being used by the original Apps. Since adding the NFS system we have noticed that things run swell for about a week and then one or more indexes on one or more files gets messed up. We haven't discovered any problems with the actual data (.dat) files and every time we have been able to rebuild the indexes with bcheck (sound of knocking on formica). Also the indexes are not always completley trashed. They may just be sorted out of order. Has anyone successfully run an Informix product that uses ISAM with NFS? Has anyone encountered the problem of indexes sorting wrong? Does anyone know for sure that ISAM will not work with NFS? (Support says alternately "yes", "no", or "what's NFS?").
