How to continue log backups automatically?

Informix OnLine DS 7.22.UC2 on HP-UX 10.20 I'd like to run continuous log backups from the console, all the time. I'm not on site every day, but the operators on site know how to look at the console and mount new tapes when requested. However, there are database users here who sometimes have legitimate reasons to take Informix briefly offline. I've written a simple script for them that will also bring the ON-Archive cataloger down, and then restart it when they restart the server. But the continuous log backup dies and does not restart. Is there any way I can... - Make the log backup survive an Informix restart? - Re-start the continuous log backup from my script, but have it run *on the console* even though users run the script from telnet sessions? - Have the continous log backup restart itself on the console periodically, if it's not already running (either via cron or some ON-Archive feature I haven't absorbed from the manual yet)? Any one of these three would solve my problem, and there may be other possibilities I haven't thought of. -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@leftbank.com cos@cs.brandeis.edu -- The Left Bank Operation -- lbo@leftbank.com http://www.leftbank.com/ "I'm addicted to stress that's the way that I get things done if I'm not under pressure then I sleep too long and I hang around like a bum I think I'm going nowhere and that makes me nervous..." -- Jim Infantino, "Stress"
