connecting IDS on different machines

Hi all, I want to access different databases on different machines. Is this possible? I read long time ago something about this but I can't remember me. Damm!! I thought it was something about mentionning both machines in the sqlhost file... Thanks for any help!! I have. IDS 9.40 SuSe

Yes, all of the servers you want to access must be in the sqlhosts file.
Once that's done, you can access a remote server directly by setting
INFORMIXSERVER to that servername or by specifying it in the connect string:
CONNECT TO 'remotedatabase@someotherserver';
or
CONNECT TO '@someotherserver';
DATABASE 'remotedatabase';
or you can connect through the local server for remote joins:
SELECT * FROM localtable, remotedatabase@someotherserver:remotetable ....
